Failte Isteach Project
23 April 2012
The Social Inclusion Unit of Donegal County Council together with the HSE and the Voice of Older People is working to introduce the Failte Isteach Project to Donegal. This community project involves training older members of the community to provide English classes to new immigrants. Fáilte Isteach works at breaking down the barriers that migrants and communities face by extending the hand of friendship and goodwill through a practical, welcoming and inclusive manner. Failte Isteach provides more than the transfer of skills and knowledge, it aims to make a positive difference to everyone involved.
We are currently seeking volunteers to become tutors. Training will be provided over two evenings as follows:
Dates 2nd & 9th May 2012
Time 5pm - 7pm (on both dates)
Venue Port na Failte Intercultural Resource Centre, Port Road, Letterkenny
Further support will be provided to the newly trained tutors at their initial classes.
We would like to secure volunteers from throughout the county so that classes can reach as many people as possible. The training is being provided free-of-charge and is available to individuals, community & voluntary organisations and groups working with people from ethnic minorities. Tutors will be required to hold a series of at least 10-15 classes in their own community but we hope that the project can continue indefinitely.
To book your place, please contact Donna McGroarty at (074) 91 72497 / email@example.com by Friday, 20th April 2012. Places are limited and will be provided on a first come basis. Further information can be found at www.thirdageireland.ie.
