A
Celebration of James Byrne
A
tribute and celebration of James Byrne, a fiddle player from
Glencolumbcille, but also much more – an ambassador of Irish music,
language, and an honest, noble way of being.
Giving
freely of their music, memories, song, and dance are some performers and
carriers of that wealth of varied tradition, who knew and admired James
and his music, and appreciate the sudden and irreplaceable loss to his
family, Donegal, the music, language, and Irish
culture.
Musicians
from County Clare Murty Ryan, Cyril O’Donoghue and Siobhan Peoples, from
Killygordon Frank and Bernard Kelly and Rita Gallagher, Dermot Byrne on
accordian, Danny Meehan, who was a great friend of James, now returned to
his native Donegal, and of course Tommy Peoples, fiddle player and our
Musician in Residence, along with some excellent dancers from
Columbcille's Derry, will all be performing.
Please
support this most worthy of appreciations at the new Balor Theatre.
James performed in the old Balor and now the new Balor performs for James,
thereby completing the circle.
Dreamers
and Dancers – the Butt Hall Story
Monday
18th – Thursday 21st May
The
Butt Hall has for generations been the heartbeat of the Twin Towns.
From supper dances to showbands to Horslips, every family has their own
memories of the Butt and their own stories to tell.
Written
and directed by Susan Doherty, this show tells the story of Isaac Butt and
the hall that was built in his memory. Starting in 1913, we see
events, which took place in the Hall down through the years. We also
witness Isaac Butt’s life story, the founder of the Home Rule Movement,
which helped shape the course of modern Irish history.
Told
with comedy, music and song, the cast includes a number of local actors
and also young actors who are related to the original founder members of
the Hall. The show celebrates the
Butt Drama Circle’s 50th year in
existence.
