A Message from the Chairman
of the
Donegal
County
Development
Board-
An Straitéis 2002-2012, the Donegal
strategy for economic, social & cultural development, was launched in
2002, to shape and guide public policy in the County. It provides the framework within
which a co-ordinated approach is adopted by all sectors in the County, be
they Community and Voluntary bodies, State Agencies, Sectoral Interests,
Local Government, Local Development Companies, that ensures that the needs
and views of all of our people are promoted.
Members of the Donegal County
Development Board (CDB) identified six themes, which the CDB has been
advancing over the last number of years - Economic Development, Social
Inclusion, Cultural Linkages, Integration of Local Government & Local
Development, the Environment, and Education and Lifelong Learning. Substantial progress has been made
in the implementation of An Straitéis, with all stakeholders and citizens
playing a key role in advancing the development of this
county.
The CDB is actively involved in a
range of projects in areas such as tourism (walking and trails
development, Atlantic Drift), renewable energies (Energy Forum, Energy
Audit, Energy Officer), economic development (Diaspora), community and
local development (Tuath), culture and heritage (Flight of the Earls,
HEART project), forestry (Forest Link), social inclusion (Social Inclusion
Unit, Donegal Youth Council) and the marine and water leisure
programme.
Much remains to be done and projects
need to be continuously appraised and adapted. Employment is a key issue and we
continue to develop programmes to promote Indigenous Enterprise, including
community, social economy and not-for –profit enterprises. Foreign Direct Investment
continues as the main driver for development of the County, while
Agriculture and Food continues as a most important sector. The importance of continued cross
border cooperation in the Letterkenny-Derry Gateway is also a priority for
the CDB.
The continued allocation of
substantial time and resources from the Donegal CDB, the County Council
Members & staff and the continued good work of the Community,
Enterprise
and Cultural Services team will bring us forward to our vision which
envisages a good quality of life for each and every resident of the
County.

Láinseáladh ‘An Straitéis 2002-2012’,
straitéis eacnamaíoch, sóisialta agus cultúrtha Chontae Dhún na nGall, i
2002, chun beartas poiblí a mhúnlú agus a threorú san Chontae.
Soláthraíonn sé frámaíocht ina nglacann na hearnálacha ulig leo san
Chontae, a chintíonn go bhfuil riachtanais agus tuairimí ár bpobal ar fad
a chur chun cinn, bíodh siad ina gComhlachtaí Pobail agus Deonach, Rialtas
Áitiúil, Comhlachtaí Forbartha Áitiúil, Gníomhaireacht Stáit nó Leas
Earnála.
D’aithin baill Bhord Forbartha an
Chontae (BFC) sé théama ina bhfuil forbairt a dhéanamh orthu ag an BFC le
roinnt blianta anois – Forbairt Eacnamaíoch, Cuimsiú Sóisialta, Nascálacha
Chultúrtha, Comhcheangal Rialtas Áitiúil agus Forbairt Áitiúil,
Timpeallacht, Oideachas agus Foghlaim Fadsaoil. Tá dul chun cinn
substaintiúil déanta i bhfeidhmiú ‘An Straitéis’, leis na saoránaigh agus
na geallsealbhóirí uilig ag dul chun tosaigh ar fhorbairt na contae
seo.
Tá an BFC gníomhach i réimse de
thionscnaimh mar Turasóireacht (forbairt Siúlóidí agus Conair, Síob
Atlantach), Fuinnimh In-athnuaite (Fóram Fuinnimh, forbairt pobail agus
áitiúil (Tuath), Iniúchadh Fuinnimh (Fóram Fuinnimh, , Iniúchadh Fuinnimh,
Oifigeach Fuinnimh), Forbairt Eacnamaíoch (Diaspóra), forbairt áitiuil
agus pobail (Tuath), Cultúr agus Oidhreacht (Imeacht na nIarlaí agus an
tionscnamh HEART), Foraoiseach (Nasc Foraoise), Cuimsiú Sóisialta (Ionad
Cuimsiú Sóisialta, Comhairle na nÓg), agus an clár fóillíocht uisce agus
mara.
Tá go leor le déanamh agus caithfear
breithmheas agus oiriúint leanúnach a dhéanamh ar na tionscnaimh. Is
Fostaíocht ceann de na príomh eisiúintí agus táimid ag forbairt cláir chun
Fiontar Dúchasach le pobail, eacnamaíocht shóisialta agus fiontair
neamhbhrabúsach san áireamh, a chur chun cinn. Leanann Infheistíocht
Dhíreach Choigríche mar phríomh thiomántóir d’fhorbairt an Chontae, agus
ta Talmhaícht agus Bia mar an earnáil is tábhachtaigh. Tá an comhoibriú
leanúnach trasteorainn ar Gheata-bhealach Leitir Ceanainn–Doire
tábhachtach agus ina phríomh thosaíocht ag an BFC.
Bhéarfaimíd aghaidh ar ár bhfís do
shaol ardchaighdeánach do gach duine ina gcónaí ins an Chontae seo tríd an
méid ama agus acmhainní ó BFC Dhún na nGall, Baill agus foireann na
Comhairle Contae agus dea-obair leanúnach fhoireann Rannóg Pobal, Fiontair
agus Seirbhísí Cultúrtha.
